How To Do A Spa Manicure At Home

Choosing to give yourself at home manicure should be a fun and relaxing time. But sometimes it can be a challenge if you do not have the right tools or know what to do. This is where our tip and tricks come into play.

Tools You Will Need:

  • Bin large enough for both feet
  • Preferred foot soak (optional)
  • Hand Towel
  • Callus remover
  • Plastic gloves (optional)
  • Pumice stone
  • Cotton balls
  • Cuticle remover
  • Cuticle pusher
  • Cuticle clippers
  • Nail clippers
  • Nail file or emery board
  • Nail polish remover
  • Foot cream
  • Toe separator
  • Nail polish (base coat, color, and top coat)
  • Nail table
  • Manicure table
  • Folding nail table

Once you have gathered up all the tools that you will need, find a comfortable chair or spot on the floor. Keep in mind that you will be here for at least an hour. You will want to remove any old nail polish that is still on your toes.

SOAK TIME
Fill your basin up with warm water. If you have a hand soak mixture you can add that in as well. Or you can mix up your own, using 1/2 cup Epson salt and a couple drops of essential oils, like Lavender. Adding these oils will give your pedicure an aromatherapy touch. You will then let your hand/foot soak for up to 15 minutes. To help pass the time you can put on your favorite show or movie.

CALLUS REMOVAL
You can skip this step if you do not want to remove your calluses. Otherwise, you are going to take one hand out of the basin and dry it off with your towel. Carefully apply the remover to the dry, cracked or thickened skin areas. You can do this by using a cotton ball or by wearing gloves. Using the pumice stone start to rub off the dead skin.

FILE OFF DEAD SKIN
Take your hand/foot file or pumice stone and scrub your hand/foot. Make sure that you focus on the rougher areas. Most files have a coarse and fine grain. The coarse grain should be used to file down calluses. While the fine grain is used to smooth out the area. You can also purchase a professional electric nail file, nail table, manicure table, nail salon furniture to make the job a bit easier.

SHAPE THOSE NAILS
There is nothing creepier than having long toenails. To get your nails(nail table salon) to a reasonable length you will need to use nail clippers. You will want to cut your nails straight across. Then run your emery board underneath the edge to gently shape and smooth out each nail.

CUTICLE CARE
Apply your cuticle remover to the base of each nail(table). Most brands require that you give the remover some time to soak in. Take the two-sided cuticle pusher to the beds of your nails. To do things, you will want to take the angled end of the pusher and push any overgrown cuticle back to where they are supposed to be. Carefully using the cuticle clippers remove any loose cuticles or hangnails. Make sure that you also remove the dead skin that is around the nail bed. But you do not want to cut your cuticles. If you do this could lead to an infection. This is something that nobody wants. Dip your feet/hand back into the basin to remove any loose skin or cuticle remover that is still around.

DECORATE YOUR NAILS
Once your nails are completely dry you can apply some foot cream or thick lotion. Slather on a rich foot/hand cream and give your feet/hand a mini-massage. Rub all the cream into your feet in a circular motion, this will help increase your blood circulation.

Doing an at home pedicure once a week will help keep your feet/hand feeling smooth, hydrated, and clean. If this feels too soon you can extend it to every two weeks instead. After you have done this a few times you will become a master of the home pedicure.
